III YEAR, Think 3, UNIT 11, p. 102 & 103

Hello everyone!
I hope you had a great time for the holidays, and I know that now, with all the lovely weather outside, you continue hanging out with friends and enjoying long walks. However, please find time to do your homework as well, school is on for another month, let's not forget!
In fact, we are on the beginning of a new unit - unit 11. The title is Help!, since it refers to dangerous situations, rescue services, first aid and so on. The photos on page 102 show several events during which rescue assistance and medical help were of great importance. One such event is described in the news report on page 103.

TASK 1
1. Read the report. Look up any unknown words online or feel free to ask me. Mark the sentences in exercise 5 true or false based on what you read.
2. In the TRAIN TO THINK section, do exercises 6 and 7.

TASK 2
1. In the SPEAKING section, think and give an answer to the third question: Do you know any other stories of ordinary people being heroes? You can use examples from your surroundings or look up stories on the Internet.

The homework is due to Monday, 4th May, 23:59 pm.

II YEAR, Think 2, UNIT 11, p. 102 & 103

Hello everyone!
I hope you had wonderful family and friends time for the holidays! And I know you have slightly longer time during the day to hang out and enjoy the spring weather, but that doesn't mean that you should forget about school, at least for one more month! So, listen up: we begin a new unit today, that is unit 11.
As you can read, its title is Making the news. We are going to deal with news reports and reporting in general. (yes, reported speech on its way :) But, today let's look at pages 102 and 103 in our book. Before we read the text, the first couple of exercises refer to one rather specific profession - a (news) journalist. Think and quickly answer

TASK 1:
1. Which qualities do you need to be a news journalist? (use the options given in exercise 1, but feel free to add your own)
2. Would you like to be a journalist? Explain why or why not. (Exercise 3)

Next read the article. The text begins on p.102, but continues on the next page, so I give you that one as well

It's an article about the tradition of journalists playing jokes on people on April Fool's Day. We were supposed to be in school on the 1st April and discuss this then. Unfortunately, due to the situation, April Fool's has long passed; on the other hand, many people play jokes not only on this day 😅

The tradition of pulling someone's leg (do you know this idiom?), especially in the press, in the so-called onion news, is long and fruitful in the English-speaking countries. This also happens in the regular media, however, limited to 1st April only. The article follows some of these pranks through the years.

TASK 2
1. Match the people's statements in exercise 6 to the stories from the text.
2. Look at the THINK VALUES section on page 103, exercise 3. Choose 1 or 2, think about the concept and give your view on it.

This homework is due to Monday, 4th May, 23:59 pm

III year, THINK 3, Unit 10, p.98 & 99

Hello everyone!
Slowly, yet surely we are closing up on unit 10. This time I give you two pages. Page 98 gives the introduction to the photostory we have for today - Strapped for cash. If you don't know the meaning of this expression, better look it up! Read the text so that you get the idea about what is going on...

Then on the next page, exercise 4 says you should watch and find out how the story ends. So, let's do it!

Now you are ready for the task on page 99 and in connection to the photostory.

TASK 1:
1. Give the ending of the story by matching 1-7 with a-g in exercise 5.
2. In the Phrases for fluency part, complete the conversations with expressions from the photostory.
3. Do the two exercises in the WordWise section, concerning phrases with by.

That's it! Your homework is due to 25th April, 23:59 pm.

HAVE AMAZING FAMILY-HOLIDAY DAYS! HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!
I'd tell you to rest and chill but I guess we are already doing it all day long 😃

II year, THINK 2, Unit 10, p.98 & 99

Hello everyone!
We are slowly, yet surely coming towards the end of Unit 10. This time I give you two pages; they refer to the culture part and the writing skills part of the unit. On page 98, the cultural review looks at different sports events and healthy exercise habits around the world.

TASK 1:
1. Read the text carefully and answer the questions in exercise 2.
2. Look at exercise 3 on the page, it also refers to the given text. Feel free to ask me or just google any unknown words, phrases and/or information. Write down the answers.
(No need to do exercise 4)

On page 99, there is a segment that is meant to refine your writing skills a bit. So, let's try it!

TASK 2:
3. First, read Lily's story "A Big Mistake", then answer the three questions in exercise 1.
4. Write a story about a real or imagined event. It doesn't have to be a sports event. It can be a funny or a scary experience you had with your friends/family. Just make sure the written story is not longer than 200 words. Next thing is that it's well-structured. This means it has an introduction, main part and an ending. Also, take care about the tenses you use, make sure they help the reader tell the order of events. Feel free to use the time expressions given in bold in Lily's story. Make an effort to make the story rather interesting to read and it'd be nice if you came up with a title for the story.

That's it! Your tasks are due to 25th April, 23:59 pm.

HAVE GREAT FAMILY-HOLIDAY DAYS, HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!
I'd tell you to rest and chill but I guess we are already doing it all day long 😃

III YEAR, Think 3, Unit 10, p.97

Hello everyone!
Let's continue with our unit 10, the next page is 97 and we can see that it deals with some grammar and some vocabulary practice. The grammar part focuses on the Future Perfect tense. If you look at exercise 1, the sentences are from the forum entries on p.96. They are the following (complete and check):
  1. By the end of his five-year contract, he'll have earned more than £70 million for playing football.
  2. Of course, they won't have thought about that before they leave school and then it'll be too late.
  3. Who knows, hopefully by the year 2050, they'll have sorted this mess out.

After that, you can look at and complete the rule in the blue rectangle below the exercise. It says that we use the future perfect for actions that will finish at some time between now and a specified time in the future (i.e. future actions that will be completed before another point in the future).
We form it with will + have + past participle;
We often used it with an appropriate future time expression, mostly by or by the time, when, after, before + a time clause. (e.g. by 2035, by the time I get to school, before they graduate etc.)

TASK 1:
Do grammar exercise 2.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the right half of page 97 there are words connected with the topics of jobs and work. Look them up on the internet and then

TASK 2:
Do vocabulary exercises 1 and 2.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Useful links:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TASK 3:

Answer the questions in the speaking parts of grammar exercise 3 and vocabulary exercise 3.

IMPORTANT - DO NOT WRITE THEM DOWN.
INSTEAD MAKE A VIDEO of yourself answering the questions. I believe it'd be best to send the files (clips) on messenger to my Facebook, but if you have another option, it's fine with me, as long as I can see it and hear you well.

You have a whole week for this homework, which I'll be expecting till Wednesday, 15th April, 23:59pm.

Sending you wishes for good health, have an amazing week! 💗💗💗

II YEAR, Think 2, Unit 10, p.97

Hello everyone!
Time to continue with our unit, time for some grammar! On page 97 in your book we have a lesson on the Past Perfect Continuous. If you look at exercise 1, the sentences are from the stories on p.96. They are the following (complete and check):
  1. They had been waiting for this moment for years.
  2. The 9-year-old had been skiing on his own during the break and had not stayed with the other children.
  3. Jack had been suffering from a serious illness since he was born.
Therefore, you can also complete the rule in the blue rectangle below exercise 1. It states that we can use it
  • to talk about things that started in the past and continued until another time in the past;
  • to talk about things that have stopped and have a result in the past;
  • to focus on how long an activity had been happening.
TASK 1:
Do the exercises 2 and 3. (Remember, past perfect simple focuses on the COMPLETION of the activity, past perfect continuous focuses on the DURATION of the activity.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Page 97 has half of it reserved for some vocabulary practice! This time we are dealing with collocations connected with the topic illness. Feel free to look them up on the internet if something is not clear. After that

TASK 2:
Do the exercises 1 and 2 from the section vocabulary.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the pronunciation part, no task here, but there you go, some rather interesting insight:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And last,

TASK 3:
Answer the questions in the Speaking part: Functions - Talking about your health.

IMPORTANT - DO NOT WRITE THEM DOWN.
INSTEAD MAKE A VIDEO of yourself answering the questions. Probably it'd be most convenient to send the files (clips) on messenger to my Facebook, or if you have another option, it's fine with me, as long as it can be seen and heard.

This time you have a whole week, I'll be expecting your homework till Wednesday, 15th April, 23:59pm.

Have a great week everyone! Stay safe and healthy! 💗💗💗

Task 1:
1. Read the forum entries, answer the questions in exercise 3.

Now look at the following articles:

(and then you have people like this guy 😂

Task 2:
2. Answer the following questions in a couple of sentences:

P.S. I am fully aware that right now you have a lot of obligations concerning the online classes.

But, please, think well about the questions in task 2 and try to give personal, honest answers. They don't have to be long, just on point. You can do it, because

II year, THINK 2, Unit 10, p.96

Hello everyone!
Today, something super easy-peasy. On page 96 you have two stories, both under the same title, Miracle Operations. They do tell real-life stories, as amazing as they are.

Task 1:
1. Read both stories. Just mark the sentences below the text with A or B, depending which story they refer to.

Read the next story from your workbook, too. It is one that should remind us that miracles don't happen exclusively to humans, we shouldn't forget about our four-legged friends!

Task 2:
2. Do the exercises below the text, number 2 and 3.

That's it! Easy peasy lemon squeezy 😉
I'll be expecting your answers till Wednesday, 23:59 pm. Stay safe!!!

III YEAR - Think 3, Unit 10, p.95

Hello everyone!

We continue with our journey through unit 10. Page 95 brings us to the listening skills part. The upper half of p.95 is about a quiz show. You have the questionnaire with the offered answers. But, first ask yourselves do you know the answers to the following questions:

  • Who was the first person to appear on a coin?
  • When was the first paper money printed?
  • When was the first credit card issued?
Evolution of money is a fascinating topic and anything connected to it makes people discuss a lot about it. You can check many sources on this and that around the net, I'm sure, maybe you'll like these:

Let's get back to our quiz show. Now click on the next video to listen to the audio data. Here we get to the first task.

TASK 1:

1. Give the answers to the five questions in the quiz. How many did you get correctly?
2. Which fact was the most surprising/interesting to you?

_________________________________________________________________________________

The lower half of the page refers to the Think self-esteem part. It invites you to consider your broader opinions and values through self-reflection. The question is simple: what's important for your future? Take time and think well about your choices.

TASK 2:

3. Choose the statements you agree with most in exercise 1
4. Match the types of goals given to each of the statements in exercise 1
5. Write sentences, at least one about each goal about yourself. You have examples in the book.

Finally, for those who are curious about the vowels in English and the pronunciation of long and short vowels, check out this:

Have fun! Will be expecting your homework until Saturday evening, 23:59 pm.
On Sunday new homework. Love you guys, you are doing awesome! 💗💙💚💛💜

II YEAR - Think 2, Unit 10, p.95

Hello everyone!

We continue with our journey through unit 10. Page 95 brings us to the listening skills part. The upper half of p.95 is about our listening task, concerning the 14 year-old-student Sam giving a talk at school about being fit and exercise. Before you click to listen, stop for a second and watch these:

Then ask yourself the following:
  • How much exercise do you do? Why do you exercise (you should be worried if you don't)?
  • Do you do more exercise than your parents/grandparents?
Now you can listen to our task when you click play on the next video. It is a talk about health. But what specifically? There are two things you need to give as an answer in connection to this.

TASK 1:

1. Pick one of the three statements in exercise 1, as a topic on which Sam is giving a speech.
2. Exercise 2 has to do with a classmate of Sam, and you are supposed to fill in the note, given on p.95, right from the photo.

Here is the video with the listening part:

_________________________________________________________________________________

The lower half of the page refers to the Train to think part and is again about health. Also the focus is on making conclusions and how to form and express them in the English language.

TASK 2:

1. In exercise 1, just fill in the sentences with therefore and should.
2. In the second exercise, you should look at the conclusions in the green rectangles and state for each which one is valid and which one is invalid. Of course, you should give reasons for your choices. (There is an example given about conclusion A, so that leaves you with three more to go.)

What can be of help here? Read the following:
  • I can speak French. Therefore, I am French. (invalid)
  • He has the same birthday as his brother. Therefore, they are twins. (valid)

Whoever wants, can look up these (there's even a quiz yay):

Have fun! Will be expecting your homework until Saturday evening, 23:59 pm.
On Sunday new homework. Love you guys, so far you are doing great! 💗💙💚💛💜
